Development Planning

All levels of government have responsibilities for guiding and planning the physical form of the area. Many different factors come into play, and plans look forward over decades. Much of the information is related to the geography and the transport network, and planning makes extensive use of sophisticated GIS. But GIS systems are specialist, hard to learn and expensive to share widely.

MapInsight is used to gather together and present a wide range of geographic data from public and proprietary sources in order to support planning, decision making and discussions with interested parties. Programme managers can identify relevant projects and influences, group them together, annotate and share their analysis in a visual, familiar form.

Easy access to a geographical overview of activity, together with the ability to rapidly integrate and test new data sources, allows planners to explore information and options, putting together ideas and data to inform long range, high impact decisions about how to develop national infrastructure to meet the needs of society now and for many years to come.
